These are some Guitar and Ukulele classes I have done over the years.

These are the photos taken during these Guitar and Ukulele Lessons.

Fingerstyle

October 4, 2011 2 comments

The thing that i enjoy most about playing the guitar is fingerstyle.

This means that the chords and melody are played together as a solo piece.

I think its a natural progression for a student to play solo pieces, once having mastered strumming.

Its tough, technically demanding, but loads of fun!

The Soprano Ukelele

I guess when anyone wants to buy a ukelele, they would like to get the soprano size. My advice is this, get a bigger ukelele, like a concert or tenor size. After teaching ukelele for some years now, i feel that a bigger sized ukelele will be easier to control and play on. Students learning the ukelele will have an easier time.

Also, buy ukeleles with Aquila strings. They sound better and are softer.

Strumming Patterns

May 13, 2011 Leave a comment

When you start learning the guitar, the basic strumming patterns will be taught. Examples are the 2 beat and 4 beat patterns.

Some students will get these patterns naturally, as they have good rhytmic sense. As for others, you have to be patient and practise consistently. Our guitar teachers will guide you patiently as you learn the guitar.

The chords you will learn

The guitar chords you will learn on the 1st and 2nd lessons are G, Em, C, D.

When you begin learning to play the Guitar, some pain and discomfort may be felt on your fingers. Practise playing the Guitar regularly, and the pain will go away.

Details of what you will learn

For new students who sign up, they will start by tab reading and playing simple melodies. Chords will be introduced as well as strumming patterns.

Gradually, students will learn how to strum and sing.

For students who prefer playing melodies, fingerstyle techniques and plucking patterns will be taught. There is no singing involved.

Do give me a call at 97450740 or email me at creamfire@hotmail.com if you want to find out more.

Cheers!

Update

Hey there out there,

Currently back teaching Guitar and Ukelele in Primary Schools again. After a long while, I finally realised that this is what i enjoy the most, to interact and teach children. The smiles on their faces and the satisfaction you get after a good class is irreplaceable.

This time round, the lessons are more structured, but still having the fun and craziness of my classes. Time seems to pass too quickly teaching these children. And I dont feel tired at all. In fact, I feel more energized over the last few weeks.

I think the main concern for me right now is not to overstretch myself again. Time management is key to that.

Haha, hope everyone is having a great Chinese New Year! I will start to update this blog regularly. Ciao!
